The Vent Love Child

Well, hello there and welcome back!

Many may ask, "where did you come up with the idea for this blog?"

I could spout off some random tangent of philosophical enlightenment or religious conviction as to the birth of this blog... But it would be a lie.

The truth is, today, my cousin Dia posted a status on Facebook about New Years Resolutions which got me to thinking -- and that always gets me into trouble in one fashion or another -- so I started questioning my opinions. I'm like my grandma - very stubborn in my own opinions, but nearly always respectful of those whose opinions differ from my own. I may not agree with them, but I am tolerant of them and welcome a good debate. So my one and only true New Year's Resolution for 2014 - playing Devil's Advocate for the upcoming year. I want to take a more in-depth look at the 'other side' of an argument/opinion as a test of my own opinions -- to see whether or not they have good standing or whether they are faulted based on biased/prejudiced views. I want to be more rounded in my thought process and I figure what better way than this. I've done some digging online and found many sites with quotes to encourage me, but one site in particular... Here is what I've come up with!

"Our opinions become fixed at the point where we stop thinking."
Ernest Renan

"The world is made up for the most part of morons and natural tyrants, sure of themselves, strong in their own opinions, never doubting anything."
Clarence Darrow

"Freedom rings where opinions clash."
Adlai E. Stevenson

"I want to find someone on the earth so intelligent that he welcomes opinions which he condemns."
John Jay Chapman

My challenge to you - Try it! As a society, we tend to roll with the flow, but as individuals, we are so deep rooted in our thoughts and opinions, we begin to see things in only one shade or color - never changing. A person who is so steadfast in their opinions seldom makes room for change - and if there is one thing we should all know - the only thing constant is change. Should you decide to take on the challenge, what do you believe you will discover about yourself and your ideals? Do they differ? Are they biased? Keep me posted!

Intro... & All That Jazz

Well, hello there!

I suppose the time has come to start a new blog. One geared less toward criminal justice, comedy & the like and more toward important views. *Sam Elliott voice* "It's time to get serious!"

This blog will be devoted to opinions - good and bad. I hope to convey mine to you and welcome any debate (as long as it is not filled with hate, vulgar words or disrespect - you ARE a grown up, right?!).

This blog comes from a thought... Very small, but after a well deserved nap, it manifested into a bigger thought, and after many issues on Facebook regarding opinions, religion, politics and the other drama-laden topics that sometimes become so overwhelming you want to vomit... This is what you get! A blog full of LaVonda's Vents... Which now sits on your computer screen, ready for you to read.

Sit down, lay down or fall down, but feel free to join me as we ride this crazy train into 2014!

Kindest,
LaVonda
